Are you part of the American Gods read-along? Do you want to join us? Read on!
I have never belonged to a book club. They scare me. I might have to sound insightful and intelligent, and if you’ve watched my book chats before, you’ll know my reviews are neither of those things. They’re enthusiastic and occasionally a little squeaky when I’m particularly excited, but in-depth analyses of literature they are not.
Plus, I never got to be in clubs when I was a kid. So clubs in general scare me too. They sound cooler and more exclusive than I’m ready for. So let’s just go with read-along, okay? Don’t intimidate me with your literary critique.
And so, this chat is about an American Gods read-along. It’s also me being, as mentioned above, somewhat enthusiastic and squeaky.
So what is the read-along?
As you may or not be aware, depending on whether you’re on social media with me (or signed up to my newsletter – are you signed up? Why not? There are free dragons!), September is our first Author of the Month feature over in the Facebook group I run with three other wonderful authors (you can check out their sites below).
This month, we’ve chosen to run with Neil Gaiman, and more specifically we’re reading American Gods and sharing lots of interesting facts and titbits as we go along, including chatting about his other books and movies. We also gave away a paperback copy of AG to kick-start the month, and will be doing the same with a Lovecraft book for next month (who better for October?).
The group’s a reader’s group, and it’s all about sharing the love of reading, bad jokes, and silly memes. And sometimes pet photos. It’s not about self-promo for the writers among us, or being nasty about things. It’s full of enthusiasm and fun. It’s a good place.
So why not come join us?
What are your thoughts, lovely people? Have you read and/or watched American Gods? Did you like either? What about other Neil Gaiman work? Let me know your thoughts below!
And head on over to check out these lovely people who admin the group with me:
