Fear & Loathing & Confusing Books

Fear & Loathing & Confusing Books

In which I confess to a love of books that sweep you up and carry you along with their sheer energy, even if you have no idea where they’re going. And you’re pretty sure that the author’s not really got much of an idea, either. And while I haven’t enjoyed all of Hunter S Thompson’s books at all, I did enjoy these ones.

And yes – they’re both better than the movies. Well, I think they are. I’m pretty sure I saw The Rum Diary, but I don’t remember it, so it can’t have been that good…

How about you, lovely people? Have you read any Hunter S Thompson? What did you think? Do you enjoy books with that sort of manic energy? Let me know below!

Folklore, Myths, Legends & King Otter

Folklore, Myths, Legends & King Otter

In which I talk about my two favourite reference books for discovering new critters to put in my stories, and show off an amazing book that I bought in Scotland, because it’s beautiful and it has King Otter in it.

Do you have any particular reference books you use for your writing? Tell me about them below!

Tove Jansson & Beautiful Books

Tove Jansson & Beautiful Books

Stumbling my way through another chat about books, where I admit I still read books for very small children and have a soft spot for Nordic melancholia. I also show you pretty pictures, so there’s that.

Have you read any Tove Jansson? Any other kids’ books you like revisiting, and would like to recommend?

Don’t forget to ask if there’s anything in particular you’d like me to natter on about!

(Trying to) Talk Fun Reads

(Trying to) Talk Fun Reads

Continuing in the theme of talking about books, but not really reviewing them, I get a bit gushy about John Connolly’s Samuel Johnson books.

They’re my level, okay?

I also have trouble with words, because I’m fairly certain they’re made for writing, not speaking.

Have you read them? What’s your favourite fun read? Let me know below – and if you’d like to hear me stumble my way through more vids, tell me what you’d like to hear about!

Talking About Books & A Video

Talking About Books & A Video

My lovely friend A.S. Akkalon does amazing not-reviews of books on her website. They’re funny, entertaining, and make more sense to me than an actual book review. I know I did a lot of analysing books way back in the foggy years of school (and a year of English Lit at uni), but I didn’t enjoy it that much then, and I have no intentions of trying it again now.

Therefore, allow me to present my first chat about books. Also my first video (other than my old fitness and yoga ones, but I didn’t have to talk at the same time in those). I hope you enjoy it (and can understand it – I’m guilty of mumbling on a regular basis).

Let me know what you think, and if there’s anything in particular you’d like me to natter about in the future!

Have you read Sleeping Beauties? What are your thoughts on it?
