An AMA involving cheese, baked goods, & other essentials

Kim M. Watt

Lovely people, launch week for All Out of Leeds, DI Adams’ first mystery … well, first individual mystery … well, second individual mystery if you count What Happened in London as the first, so first individual Yorkshire mystery …?

Look, let’s just go with it’s a new book! A brand-new mystery! There are dastardly deeds and dangerous necklaces and underhand dealings and caffeine-fixated invisible dogs and treacherous ponds and problematic women of a certain age! The exact details and my confusion over book numbering are only sort-of relevant.

And in anticipation of the release, I did two separate Ask Me Anythings, one for my wonderful supporters over on Ko-fi(who also got to grab their books last Friday, you snooze you loose! Ahahaha not really. You can buy it over there now if you’re comfortable loading it onto your ereader yourself – there are instructions!), and one for the lovely members of the Toot Hansell Auxiliary Facebook group. And they asked me interesting and thoughtful questions (including cheese-based ones), and I answered in a much less coherent manner.

But, should you be interested in my writing process and schedule, as well as things like what my favourite cheese is, you can watch away below!

Ko-fi AMA

This one covers four questions which are all to do with my writing process. Where ideas come from, what my schedule looks like, what my (lack of) organisation is, and how long it took me to get my first book out.

I answer all with varying degrees of digression, but also completely mess up on that last one, and say I’ve been writing full-time since 2018. I have not. That was simply when I published the first Beaufort. I’ve been trying to write full-time for much longer, and only actually doing it as a full-time job since 2021. Just in case anyone thought I made some sort of dastardly deal with eldritch beings to be able to instantly go full-time with just one book …

Toot Hansell Auxiliary AMA

This one is more wide-ranging, covering things from my best baking mistakes, to the possibility of series cross-overs and character cameos, to favourite childhood books and what the deal with the ducks is.

My main mistake in this one is a lot of confusion over my own launch dates, which should come as a surprise to no one.

And, lovely people, that is all for this post! The link is here, should you wish to nab yourself a copy of All About Leeds, which is available in the shop in ebook, paperback, and is also available in audio at all your usual retailers!

And, of course, if you have any other questions, please jump into the comments and let me know :)

All Out of Leeds

Walk softly, and carry a very big stick …

DI Adams fled London to escape bridge-dwelling monsters and magical toasties – a one-time experience she’s in no hurry to repeat. She’s police, not some cryptid hunter.

Leeds has other plans, though.

Tasked with the seemingly mundane case of a missing necklace, Adams soon realises she’s stumbled into something inexplicable. The trinket is dangerous, and she’s the only one who recognises it for what it is – a weapon that could tear the north apart.

Juggling unhelpful colleagues, amnesiac witnesses, and problematic women of a certain age, Adams plunges into the treacherous, magic-soaked streets of Leeds. She may not have backup, but at least she has the invisible, caffeine-addicted dog by her side.

Plus a duck. And a very big stick.

She’s got this. She has to.

Because there’s no one else who can …
